Hot Air in Cancun
In response to the this editorial in the Chronicle , I sent the following letter:
re: Nice vacation: Climate conference expected to generate little but tropical fun for attendees
It is amusing to see the convergence of climate change activists on Cancun for the United Nations conference on combating global warming. It is almost too easy to denigrate the hypocrisy of the mostly taxpayer-funded attendees staying in 5-star resort hotels and spewing tons of greenhouse gases traveling to Mexico in fossil fuel-burning jets and being ferried around Cancun in gasoline-powered limousines, patting themselves on the back for the seriousness and dedication while lecturing others on reducing our own "carbon footprints" — particularly with the preponderance of conference call and web-meeting software.
The one positive of the meeting is that there is no chance that the delegates will accomplish their goal of raising taxes on energy consumption through the implementation of tax raising schemes like "cap-and-trade" that transfer more money and power from individuals and families to the government and its hand-picked "green" cronies in the name of unspecified decreases in global temperatures.
Sincerely,
